stranger in the night to make things right I need
something new, shiny and bright, I need a new dream
I need some ice cream, I need to get to Wrigley before I scream
I need you more than flowers in this hospital room, I need
Devo on the stereo I need to go go go I need new sheets
I need a healing hand I need your kiss on my li

HomelessListening to Porcupine Tree to mask the tinnitus
(screaming, screeching, cicadas, electricity through wires)
Listening until my head swells with the music
I manage to push my huge head through the window
And float over the town like a lost parade balloon
I can see for miles, but I can't see you
Its cold, I'm tired, I want to go home
Where are you?

Nothing but the WindThe wind was screaming
I saw a man without a face
Walking down the sidewalk
Tapping his cane in front

I saw a white bus stopped
The man tapped his way on
I saw the heavens open

I saw a freight train coming
I saw death tapping
A saw blood on the tracks

RieslingSparsely stardusted skies give way to another greycloud day
The color of sheetmetal, dishwater, old dreams dying
Thirty hours and fifty-three minutes away a woman bakes bread
I can feel the warmth of her kitchen, taste the Riesling
All the way here
Here in my small dusty apartment the lights are on
But I'm not home

ConnotationsBetween pressed sheets
I am laid out before you—
with spine splayed
and my soul bared.
I ache for your eyes to see my truths,
plead for your fingers to explore me;
turn me and grasp at my edges, my corners,
before folding me down, to mark the place
where you'll return.

like two blades of grass
heavy with morning dew

but you're the first frost of november.

Tonight's Lineupsophomoric insults
gossip
teen drama

corruption
betrayal
sex

deception
violence
murder

There ain't nothing worth watching on tv

MidnightIt’s hard to distinguish
the differences between us
when there’s blood upon your fingertips
and some around my mouth
from when you went to caress my face
with a tender, loving grace that seemed wildly out of place.
And if I had to choose
between your frantic eyes
and my wild hair,
I don’t think I could decide
if it would be best to lose all sense of mind
or to be the source of our demise.

When you crawl across the floor,
it’s not the plunge of which I fear,
rather the blood stained sheets we’ll leave behind
and the ringing of your screaming in my ears.
I swear they all can hear.

But it’s such a thrillin

ThursdayRumors of tumors, chatty neighbors, the grateful dead
A broken swing on a deserted playground
And bones; oh, the bones that pile up, more everyday
Thursday I had nothing to say

A weak and pale moon glares down at the snow, impotent
Stars in motion whisper my star-name, calling
Tiny spiders build homes in my beer-soaked brain
Thursday I had nothing to say

Pizza or Chinese for dinner? I can't hold a thought
Craftsmanship went out on a three-hour cruise
Through the swamplands of South Carolina in the rain
Thursday I had nothing to say

A brass-toothed journeyer shines a light in dark corners
Nudges and pokes at the beasts sleeping t

Before The Stars FadeThe world has grown smaller, more insignificant
Little men run about in the darkness, screaming their inanities
Quiet listening is abandoned in favor of shouting louder
over the top of one's neighbors

Dreams once soft and sweet have become meat for them
to tear apart and grind with their teeth, demanding recognition
But no one is ever fulfilled, untiringly grasping at shadows
The world shrinks a little more, and children grow up fast

I can hear the screaming and shouting from my bed, through
closed windows, all want to make their presence known
Seeing like a cat, hearing like a bat, I feel the need to go out and
shout with them, t

all my time is spare timeI was sitting on a bench,
avoiding the company of my own home, &
imagining the conversation we would have
when you sat down next to me.

Sure, I didn't know you would be you,
or any of the words we would actually speak,
but what I needed was someone to pay attention
& you fit the bill.

Or, at least, I think you did.

It's hard to gauge attention
when I can't meet anyone's eyes
for more
than a few seconds at a time.

It's hard to really connect
when our very atoms are repelling
one another.

All I know is, you sat down and that's what matters.

At least, I'm pretty sure you sat down;
almost positive that I wasn't talking

Vie NoirYou were the promise of regret,
destiny wrapped in an egg shell,
something that temperance would not allow.

And you looked at me with cloudy eyes,
sipping your excuses while choking on tomorrow.

(We were the privileged few that God chose to endure the hopeless)

And you cursed my name while confessing every lie.
My borders grew as you clawed for the limits of absolution.

(We were the privileged few whose skin was hard to pierce)

And you loaded that gun with false bravado and ill intent.
The world was watching as you aimed it at the future.

Black RibbonsThe dark waters shift from skullside to skullside
Seeping into the folds of my brain, casting shadows behind my eyes
I cannot roar my pain, but groan it gently
Begging for sleep, for release, for something not given

Blue light reflects upon the line of white trucks
The moon has fallen flat on its fat face in this madness
This season of no reason, this hellish fierce farce
Ribbons of black silk hang from the bare trees

And what of you, running so fast that you can't see
Running to anything as long as its away, away, always away
The dawn cannot catch you, I cannot save you
My head sloshes and at last cracks as I touch your face

AtmosphereI got high and found you on my mind
Resting in my lap, talking about the weather

It wasn’t stormy or even blue
Just a day when the sky couldn’t settle its mood
